![]() The fact there’s no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto underscores this notion. Where the GX shows its age is the cabin, particularly the infotainment system it looks and functions like a something from yesteryear. As with the NX, constant updating has kept it in touch with a shifting market - it finally wears the corporate spindle grille. ![]() Introduced in 2010, the GX is starting to age, albeit gracefully. This means the preferred RX 350 is no longer a pure highway cruiser. All models feature a reworked suspension that delivers crisper handling. As with the other hybrids, a rear-mounted electric motor improves performance and adds AWD capability. The hybrid uses the same V6 and electric motors to produce a net output of 308 horsepower and 247 lb.-ft. The setup is refined and willing, in spite of the somewhat old-school, normally aspirated V6 when turbochargers are the new order. It drives all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, the fact the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime, which arrives this summer with 302 horsepower and a 60-kilometre electric-only range, means a significant NX rework is looming.īoth the RX and RX L work with a 3.5-litre V6 that makes 295 horsepower and 268 lb.-ft. Both powertrains offer solid performance, and in the case of the hybrid, outstanding fuel economy. As with UX, an electric motor drives the rear wheels, which gives it AWD and a net output of 194 horsepower. of torque, along with electric motors and a CVT. The NX 300h hybrid eatures a 2.5L inline-four that produces 154 horsepower and 152 lb.-ft. of torque through a six-speed automatic and a sorted AWD system. The preferred NX 300 is powered by a perky 2.0L turbo-four that pushes 235 horseppower and 250 lb.-ft. The lone exception is the awkward Lexus Remote Touch controller for the infotainment system mercifully, it’s going away. Likewise, the avant-garde interior is geared towards comfort with a wealth of standard equipment and functionality. The funky exterior styling and raked roofline does limit the size of cargo that fits in the back and it creates a blind spot, but few enjoy quite the same sort of road presence. While the NX was introduced in 2015, constant nipping-and-tucking over the years has done a reasonable job of hiding its age. The combination brings 181 net horsepower, and aside from giving the UX more pop off the line, the second electric motor powers the rear wheels, adding all-wheel-drive capability and improving fuel economy without impinging on usable cargo space. The preferred model is the UX 250h the hybrid uses the same 2.0L engine, but supplemented with electric motors and a 24-kilowatt nickel-metal hydride battery. The UX 200 arrives with a 2.0-litre inline-four that pushes 168 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with 10 pre-determined ratios. Move rearward, however, and legroom and cargo capacity are at a premium. The NuLuxe material wrapping the seats is passable, as far as vinyl goes. It arrives as a nicely equipped city slicker - everything from an advanced infotainment system to heated and cooled front seats with eight-way power adjustment for the driver. The gateway to the Lexus crossover lineup is the funky UX 200. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.
